FAQ’s Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure used to treat infections or damage within the pulp of the tooth. It involves removing the infected or damaged tissue, cleaning and shaping the root canals, and sealing them to prevent further infection.  There are also times a root canal is necessary to restore a tooth to function when there is insufficient tooth structure to support a crown. 

Common symptoms that may indicate the need for root canal treatment include severe tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling or tenderness in the gums, and a persistent pimple on the gums. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is essential to consult your dentist.

Root canal treatment is not typically painful. Local anesthesia is used to numb the affected tooth and surrounding area, ensuring that you remain comfortable throughout the procedure. In fact, root canal treatment is often performed to relieve pain caused by dental infections.

In some cases, antibiotics may be prescribed after root canal treatment, especially if there is evidence of a significant infection or if the infection has spread beyond the tooth.
